Several dictionaries are supplied with the Mac OS X spell checker. However, you may have created one or more custom dictionaries with the spell checker that was part of previous versions of EndNote. You can convert those custom dictionaries for use with EndNote X9.
To import a spelling dictionary from a previous version of EndNote:
Locate the dictionary file you want to convert. In previous versions of EndNote, user dictionaries were saved to EndNote’s Spell folder with the extension .TLX.
Navigate to the EndNote X9/Spell folder and locate the Dictionary Converter. The EndNote X9 folder is typically found in the Applications folder.
Drag the original .TLX dictionary file and drop it on the Dictionary Converter.
The terms will be imported into the current Mac OS dictionary (the current language dictionary selected in the Spelling dialog), and will be available throughout all of Mac OS X.
